  • Use Tmon solution for remote monitoring.

Hills Road Sixth Form & College is a prestigious higher education institution based in Cambridge. It welcomes over 2000 students. While primarily for A-level sixth form students, it also caters to adult education, with evening courses available. Moreover, with an array of campus facilities, including a sports and tennis centre and a study centre with rooftop staff facilities, the sixth form centre can offer a diversified environment for its many staff, students, and visitors.

In 2024, Hills Road Sixth Form & College implemented a campus redevelopment that saw the addition of new buildings and social spaces.

Challenge

When Hills Road Sixth Form & College desired to enhance security for the premises, they had the challenge of finding the right solution. Given the need for perimeter security, it was essential to use a solution that effectively works outdoors while remaining unobtrusive to the surroundings. It also needed to be user-friendly and suitable for an array of users, including staff, students, and visitors.

As a higher education facility, the college also had to design a security solution and ensure that whatever new solution they opted for could be completed within the time constraints of the summer holiday.

Solution

Once the sixth form centre approached Meesons, a suitable solution that met their criteria was found. Meesons advised the EasyGate SPT-Outdoor Speed Gates to provide entrance control for the car park, cycle and main entrances. The speed gates’ IP54 rating allows them to withstand different weather conditions. This ensures that they can handle the outdoor location where they would be placed. Not only this, but their contemporary and subtle design means that they aren’t an obstruction to onlookers while also having the ability to work as a visual deterrent to those unauthorised to enter.

In order to meet high standards of usability, Meesons partnered with sister company from the andwis group, Ace Fire & Security. Ace used their expertise to implement the Motorola Solutions and Avigilon Unity Access Control System, which utilised Meesons readers. This includes QR codes for students to gain access, simply by using their smartphones. Alongside this, the speed gates featured Tmon for remote monitoring which included a scheduler to enable daily plans to be made, ensuring they can optimise the speed gates for different footfall needs.

Results

Working with one partner for complete expertise on this project enabled a smooth process for the client. Combining Ace Fire & Security’s expertise in access control with our smart entrance solution enabled the project to be a success.
