French landmark refurbishment enhances entrance control

Before

  • Required a new and enhanced system to facilitate a smooth flow

  • Aid in the building’s modernization

After

  • Left with a system that efficiently manages the accessible flow of people
  • Enhanced the building’s modernisation, seamlessly integrating with its design

A beautiful landmark in France’s capital city, Paris, has come to completion after a 15-year refurbishment. During the 15-year period, it was refurbished to modernise the space while preserving the historic Beaux-Arts architecture.

This landmark’s refurbishment saw the enhancement of accessible spaces and entrances, all while restoring the historic elements. Housing over two million items, it spans an impressive 3.7 million square feet in Paris.

Combining both the past and future of Parisian architecture, the site has a minimal aesthetic with the use of materials like glass and steel.

Challenge

The existing doors at the site no longer supported the building’s modernisation. A solution that would complement the minimal glass façade while helping to maintain a steady flow of people was now required. In line with enhancing accessibility to the building, it was necessary for the solution to offer inclusivity, enabling seamless people flow without restrictions.

In order to be energy efficient, the building features a double façade that refracts natural and artificial light. These efforts towards sustainability meant that other items, including the entrance on the façade, should contribute to energy efficiency.

Solution

Meesons Europe was appointed to replace the existing entrance and exit of this building. To overcome their challenges, the team advised the building to use the Rev 3 GL, the three-winged, all-glass revolving door.

The all-glass design also enables natural light to come in, creating a welcoming and open atmosphere.

Additionally, the use of a revolving door contributes to their sustainability efforts. By minimising air exchange, the Rev 3 GL helps maintain indoor climate therefore aiding energy efficiency. Alongside this, it reduces heating and cooling costs.

Also, by being an all-glass revolving door, it reduces the need for artificial lighting which lowers energy costs and limits the amount of power the building uses.

Results

The Rev 3 GL Revolving Door on both the entrance and exit of this landmark in Paris left the building with both an aesthetic and sustainable facade. It helps to improve the building’s energy efficiency and blends seamlessly into the refurbished building’s design.

The client is now left with a solution that effectively manages accessible people flow into the landmark building while also contributing to the building’s key sustainable and aesthetic functions.
