A Robust Outdoor Solution for Campus Perimeter Security

Halesowen College is a further and higher education college based in the West Midlands town of Halesowen. With their strong commitment to nurturing their 6000 students within an exceptional learning environment, they have prioritised consistently improving the college.

Challenge

Having reviewed the campus security at Halesowen College, the client decided additional security was required. With this, the college needed to control access to the campus and prevent unauthorised access to the facilities. However, Halesowen’s high number of students needed a solution to protect the perimeter and cope with the throughput.

Solution

Meesons arranged a site visit to understand the client’s needs better and established that our SPT Outdoor Speed Gates would be the ideal solution. We proposed installing nine lanes to help manage the busy flow of people entering and leaving the campus. Due to being in a college, they have a greater risk of people forcing their way through the gates; however, the SPT Outdoor Speed Gates have a holding force of 650N, preventing this. And, with the speed gate’s IP53 rating, they’re highly robust and suitable for harsh weather conditions; therefore, they work perfectly as an outdoor solution as required.

The college requested the ability to control and override the speed gates. Therefore, Meesons provided an EasyTouch Control Panel and TMON Software. This enabled online remote control, monitoring automatic time scheduling of directional access through the speed gates lanes, easing the flow at peak times.

Results

The EasyGate SPT Speed Gates allowed for a smooth transit of students for Halesowen College. Using a sub-frame solution beneath the finished concourse paving, the installation was simplified and cabling could be routed the framework in the correct position securely. Since its installation, the speed gates have worked as an integral part of the building’s security, protecting the perimeter from unauthorised access.
